Getting my Sewing Grind ON...

So, I recently (finally) got myself a sewing machine! So, in order to get better use to my new toy, I hunted through the depths of Pinterest to find some crafts that I could easily make.
Here it is! But with nothing in it yet.

I stumbled upon this tutorial on a site called Crazy Little Projects. It seemed pretty doable, and didn't require a lot of supplies, so I hit up the JO-ANN Fabrics, got some fabrics with fun pattern options, and figured I'd give it a go!

Her blog has a pattern, but I didn't actually use her printable pattern, as I didn't have a printer. But I made my own based on hers, and it seemed to work just fine! I also based mine off of the wipes holder that I already have, plus the space that 2-3 diapers take up. Not too shabby for a first time and being out of practice AND using an unfamiliar machine!

I could have done a better job on the velcro lol.
The idea for this project actually came to me a while back, when I wanted to take some diapers and wipes with us, but didn't want to take the whole diaper bag to a wedding. When we went, I used a large purse as a combo purse/diaper bag, but I had diapers floating around with all my other things...it would have been awesome to have this handy instead!

I will say that I could tell I need some more practice...I accidentally messed up but sewing the top together inside out. And I also didn't do a very good job on the velcro on mine. But, it was fun to be able to try something new and begin working with my new sewing machine!

I also made 3 scarves at this point. All infinity scarves. One for my sister, one for my mom, and one that I'm selling online for just $15 because I had so much extra fabric left over.

Since getting my sewing machine, I also found an AWESOME FREE PRINTABLE pattern for Bandana Bibs for babies and toddlers by a blog called Apple Green Cottage! I totally printed it at work...lol. So worth it! These bibs are so awesome for my son because he is always drooling from his little teeth that are coming in (he has 4 teeth now!) and they give him something besides his shirts to chew on. And his shirts were getting pretty gross.

I've made several bibs at this point...here's a pretty nerdy one I made for my son with Adventure Time fabric that is super soft! I found it at JoAnn's and I have so much left over, I plan on making a blanket for him as well!

I'm looking forward to some more crafts in the future. Do you have any recommendations for craft ideas you'd like to share! I'm always looking (mostly on pinterest) for new stuff I'd like to try to make sometime!

Week 12: Puke-achu Part 2 & Update!

Unfortunately, the morning sickness and nausea continues to dominate my daily life. And I had my first prenatal appointment with my doctor last week, which went really well! I was very glad that Kevin came with me to this first appointment, because we just happened to be able to get an ultrasound that same day. Originally they were going to schedule one for another day, but someone had cancelled right after our appointment, so we got to stay a little longer and see out little one together for the first time.  For some reason, I wasn't expecting to see something that looks so much like a little baby already. I guess I didn't know what to expect. But when they showed Baby Mertz for the first time, she/he was moving around so much! I could not believe it! I can't even feel it! I was surprised I didn't cry, but it was probably because I could barely look away from the screen. It was so incredible to see the little person flipping around in there! Whil

Week 32: Summer Time

Well, here's the most current baby bump photo! I'm at work lol. I also got a haircut! It's not really what I wanted, but it'll grow out and be fine.  32 Weeks As far as Mr. Valentine goes, he's looking good. Every doctor's appointment is pretty standard now, with nothing new to report; just a very active baby. He's constantly kicking and punching me. I have been struggling just a tad with the summer heat. But, I've found a genius way around it. Swimming. I did go swimming in a real pool with some friends from work a couple Saturday's ago, but I got a pretty bad sunburn, so I have been avoiding the outside as much as I can since then to let it heal. But I have a back up plan for my house. I hate being stuck inside when the weather is nice (especially since this past winter was never ending!) so I found a children's pool with a slide that I can lay on, sort of like a lounge chair. It can also pull double duty next summer when I have a

Week 28: Big Belly, Back Pain, and Baby BFFs.

Things have been going really well in the Mertz household! Kevin's little brother Cameron has moved into our basement "apartment" that has been officially named the Man Cave. It's pretty awesome. Here's just the living area. In baby related news, the belly is definitely getting bigger, and with that, I'm now experiencing the back pain. Here's my 28 weeks picture! I also had trouble sleeping, which I'm pretty confident was in relation to the back pain I am having. But I got one of those awesome pregnancy body pillows and have been getting better sleep since then. I still wake up at least once in the night to hit the bathroom, but the quality of sleep I get has definitely improved! I found mine for a great price too...just $39.99 at Burlington Coat Factory! In case you don't know me very well, I like to find the best deals I can on things. And I'd been hunting around for these pillows, with the lowest price I'd seen on the full bod
